Welcome to SLGS

The Sri Lankan Geotechnical Society (SLGS) was inaugurated on 27th February 1986, in response to the need felt for a long time by the scientists, engineers and geologists associated with Geotechnical Engineering to provide a forum for exchange and advancement of knowledge in the field of Geotechnical Engineering. With time, SLGS has gained recognition as a member of the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE) thus opening opportunities to participate internationally in the advancement of Geotechnical Engineering, an achievement of another goal set at the time of founding the Society.

ICGE-Colombo 2026

The Sri Lankan Geotechnical Society (SLGS) will host ICGE-Colombo 2026 on 24–25 August 2026 at the Cinnamon Grand , Colombo, coinciding with SLGS’s 40th Anniversary.

With the theme “Resilient Geotechnics for a Sustainable Future”, the conference will bring together global professionals to share knowledge on areas such as piled foundations, geo-risk mitigation, slope stabilization, and transportation geotechnics. The program will feature international keynote speakers, peer-reviewed proceedings (online and in print), and commemorative celebrations.
